A Local's Guide To Living in Two Rivers in Odenton, Maryland

Written By Malcolm Lawson

Two Rivers offers far more than just a home: it’s a community. A Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND), Two Rivers has walkable streets and bike paths. The community covers close to 1,500 acres, with more than 700 acres of green space. This includes an event lawn, garden, nature center, and ponds. The center, though, is the expansive Cattail Lake.

Everything is always in perfect condition, thanks to a dedicated team that takes care of the grounds. This includes lawn maintenance, a trash service, and snow removal in winter.

The name Two Rivers is derived from the fact that the community lies between the Patuxent River and the Little Patuxent River. Just outside the community are miles of paved and natural trails for hiking and biking. These cover a protected preserve and wetlands near the rivers. The trails connect to the 13-mile Washington, Baltimore & Annapolis (WB&A) trail system.

Two Rivers offer something for everyone. They have both a 55+ and over section as well as an all-ages section and 8 different home builders with many different models for you to choose from.

The active adult community of Two Rivers is called 55 & Better. Each section has its own rules — in some cases, all residents need to be at least 55 years old, whereas other sections require only one resident to meet the age requirement. In total, there are almost 1,000 homes for active adults, around three-quarters of which have already been sold.

In addition to the homes, 55 & Better residents have exclusive access to The Village Club, which has an award-winning clubhouse called Founders Club. Among other amenities, the clubhouse has a fitness center with yoga studio, meeting rooms, games, a cyber café, a ballroom and more.

There’s also both a heated indoor pool and a resort-style outdoor pool with a deck and outdoor kitchen on the premises. Nearby are tennis courts and pickleball courts. This range of amenities is one of the most comprehensive you’ll find in any community in the DC metropolitan area.

If you like gardening, you’ll love living at Two Rivers. The more than 100-acre community garden features raised garden beds with high fencing to keep plants safe from deer and rabbits. You rent a space and can plant whatever you want: fruits or vegetables, flowers or herbs. Water stations make it easy to maintain your garden, and you’ll have all the equipment you need on hand in the shared tools shed.

The newest part of Two Rivers is called The Hamlets and has no restrictions on age at all. It’s separate from, but located adjacent to, 55 & Better. The Hamlets is divided into five sections, which together consist of more than 1,000 single-family homes.

Residents of The Hamlets have their own clubhouse, called The Hamlet Club, which holds events including movie and game nights. There’s also an outdoor pool with a competition section consisting of six lanes and plenty of places to play sports in the tennis, sand volleyball, basketball, and multi-sport courts. For the youngest residents, there is also a tot lot and play stations.
