The gates have since opened and now serve as a symbol that Crofton is an open community. However, Crofton Parkway still encloses the center and now hosts several events every year, including some annual parades. The 3.5-mile track is also a favorite place for walking, biking, and jogging.

Crofton remains small, with a population of a little over 27,000 and covering 6.6 square miles. To the southwest of Crofton is the Little Patuxent River, which separates Anne Arundel from Prince Georges county.
